Provo City was settle in the Spring of 1849, under the direction of Brigham Young. John S. Higbee led 33 families of Mormon pioneers from Salt Lake City to settle in Provo. Blocks of four acres were surveyed and divided into parcels for home sites. Provo City became the county seat for Utah County in January 31, 1850.
