Mormon settlers founded Pleasant Grove, Utah on September 13, 1850. The city became incorporated on January 19, 1855. Pleasant Grove is located twelve miles northwest of Provo and thirty-six miles southeast of Salt Lake city. In March 1849 in the city of Pleasant Grove the Mormon pioneers had their first conflict with the Indians on March 5, 1849 at the head of a stream known as Battlecreek. Very little industry happened in the city of Pleasant Grove city. Most that did develop was farm related, sugar beats mostly. In 1942 Geneva Steel, built 3 miles away, gave residence an opportunity for a wage outside of farming. Farming as an area occupation began to diminish.

The city of Pleasant Grove is home to a unique summer festival, Strawberry Days, the longest running community celebration in Utah to date.

By contrast, other cities in the county have had most of their sales concentrated between approximately $180,000 to $240,000.
