Mapleton Utah History

The city of Mapleton started out as an agricultural extension of the small Hobble Creek community called Springville. The early settlers, around 1850, cleared and fenced between five and six hundred acres. A more extensive land survey was completed in Mapleton in the late 1860's. It was during the drive for a town government that a real sense of community developed. A large new school building, a larger Mormon meetinghouse, stores, and a dance hall and improved roads, canals, and groves of trees were developed. By 1911 they had a new recreation center in Mapleton City, built by public donation. Mapleton cities 1990 population is quite cosmopolitan.

As of the 2000 census, Mapleton city had a population of 5,809. There were 1,442 households in Mapleton of which 54.1% had children under the age of 18. Mapleton city covers 9.2 square miles, it's elevation is 4,700 feet above sea level. The median income for a household in Mapleton was $60,985.

Other areas in the County have seen a much higher number of FHA financed loans.
